Buying Veg

Most of our produce is sold through our veg box scheme, which since March 2016, runs as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme.

The CSA is system in which members support the work we do, and in return receive a share of the crops we grow. As a member you are part of a group of people who are helping the local community become more secure and self-sufficient in its food production. You also have the opportunity to contribute to the project development and attend social events with like-minded people.

An important aspect of the scheme is the sharing of the success of the growing season. Because we can't predict the weather, the success, or the amount of harvest each year, as a member you share with us the achievements and failures of the season. Membership also involves your household in local food production through a small volunteer contribution to the project each year

We operate a delivery service to households in Sandness, Walls and the Bridge of Walls. For other areas we use drop off hubs/pick up points on route from the Westside to Lerwick. Veg boxes can also be picked up from Turriefield.

This year we have 40 veg box/shares available on a weekly or fortnightly basis. We have a waiting list for veg boxes places. When you contact us about becoming part of the scheme, we will let you know how long it is likely to be before you can receive a share of the crops. If we can't offer you a membership subscription straight away, we will add you to the waiting list and tell you how many households are waiting ahead of you.

The project is still growing and we anticipate production increasing over the coming years. A selection of our seasonal produce is also available in Scoop wholefoods in Lerwick, at rural shops and at our farm gate. We also supply the Scalloway Hotel with seasonal vegetables.

"Access to locally grown vegetables is important to me as I want to give my family real food.
It's great that I know that what I’m getting isn't covered in PCBs and it tastes better too.
The quality of what I’ve bought so far has been excellent."
