Volunteering

Volunteers are a key part of the Transition Turriefield workforce. We have a local volunteer team and our CSA veg box scheme members who have a commitment to local food production as part of their membership.

Volunteers range in age from under 18 to 70+ and there are a range of activities to suit all ages and physical abilities.

There are many different ways to be involved with veg production from helping us grow the produce to harvesting, weighing and packing. Or helping to develop the project and with administration.

Being hands on with the growing involves preparing the growing beds, sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings and weeding. Skills in construction also come in useful if we’re building polytunnels, hen houses, compost bins and windbreaks.

Less physical volunteering opportunities are available too, such as helping at training events or serving teas at our open days.

We would never be able to achieve what we do without our volunteers. In the 2018 season 55 individuals gave more than 6350 hours of their time to help us grow our produce and develop the project.
